James Tyler Magaha, 34, of Granville, Tennessee, turned himself in on felony charges of Attempted Murder and Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Serious Bodily Injury filed against him by the Derry Township Police Department on Friday, Oct. 18. The charges were filed in connection with the road rage incident on Park Avenue in Hersey on Sunday, Oct. 6 around 9:40 p.m.
During the incident he running into and over then dragged off-duty Penn State University's Harrisburg Campus Police Lieutenant Juan Castro, Jr. before fleeing, according to the release.
Magaha and a yet to be identified woman had just come from Sheetz after a day at Hersheypark, the police explained in the affidavit citing surveillance videos.
The police were still investigating the case when Magaha's legal counsel contact the police saying his client "wished to turn himself in to authorities" on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
He has been released on $100,000 in bail as set by Judge Dominic Pelino at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 18. His preliminary hearing is set before the judge at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Lt. Castro remained in the hospital in stable condition at the time of publishing.
